Yes, We Still Have Dogs....
"Ni'Hao Kai-lan"!
We are not big TV people but Emma and Sophie had watched the cartoon 2 or 3 times over the summer.
Obviously they really LIKED it because they were thrilled when I found the pictured shirts at Target last month. (I hate character clothing but these were really too cute and Asian to pass up)! We went to Toys R Us yesterday so that the girls could spend their gift cards from Aunt Marilyn and Uncle Henry. They spotted these characters from the show and that was it! Emma wanted the "Hoho" (my best guess is that it's a Monkey) and Sophie wanted "Kai-lan".
I think that there is definitely a "Kai-lan Kick" going on in our house! :)
(Thanks Aunt Marilyn and Uncle Henry)!!

A New Friend
Emma has a new friend at school and her name is "Kenararge", which is pronounced KEN-A-RAR-GEE. Apparently Kenararge rides the bus, she has black hair and brown skin just like Emma, she is 5 years old & she is in Emma's preschool classroom. According to Emma her friend has even complimented on Emma's clothes and hairstyles.
I was happy to hear that Emma had made a friend so early in the school year. I wanted to learn more about this little girl and perhaps set up a play date since she and Emma seemed to get along so well. I asked Emma to pronounce her friend's name a few times since it was so....unusual. It almost sounded like she was saying "Kenny Rogers" and it reminded me of that old Seinfeld episode about the chicken. (Ha-Ha).
Today Emma's teacher Ms. Marci informed me that Kenararge is Emma's imaginary friend. :) Apparently after playing on the swing the other day Emma insisted that Kenararge have a turn too. I remember having a special friend when I was about the same age as Emma.
Emma is very into imaginary play lately-everything is "pretend". So, actually I am not so surprised to learn about Kenararge. I think that it is VERY funny though!! :D

The 2009-2010 School Year Begins!
Today marked the first day of school....where did the past 3 months go?! On that note; I can't believe that this is Emma's third year of school already! She is with the same wonderful team of teachers this year and we are looking forward to another year of growth for dear sweet Emma. :)
We had a VERY busy day here today. Not only was it Emma's first day back to class, it was also our first visit with our new Psychologist-I'll call her "Dr. Pat". Dr. Pat is a colleague of "Dr .P"...the Neuro-Psych who has helped our family so much. Anyway, Dr. Pat is going to be testing Emma next month. We are hopeful that these tests (geared toward little ones like Emma) will provide answers & a diagnosis. We KNOW a lot of things now- but there is still so much that we DON'T know.
Emma and Sophie eating breakfast; I can't figure out which one looks like the bigger "Nitwit"? Really, what is with the scrunched up eyes anyway?! ;)

Emma admiring her new backpack. We chose it together online a few weeks ago, she liked the hearts!
Emma sporting her curly-doo courtesy of the pink foam granny curlers that she wore to bed! :)

~Starbucks on Sunday~
Emma and I made a "Starbucks Run" on Sunday morning.
Emma always wants a cup of coffee to be like us. So, I ordered two Kid's Hot Chocolates & since they were out of bagels I got them each a donut.
They liked the donuts but not the hot chocolate. GOOD GRIEF!! (Insert eye roll here). :) Sophie hates milk so I should have known that this was not going to go over well with her. And, Emma wanted REAL coffee.
